The 1st SPIM (Skin Physiology International Meeting) assembled last November 2008, at Vichy, researchers from public and industrial sectors; coming from different and various fields, but all of them focused on the subject of skin physiology. Apart from this multidisciplinary aspect and less ordinary in this kind of meeting, some young researchers were selected through their papers by the SPIM Scientific Commission and invited to present their work therefore to compete for a grant of € 15,000.

Finally, in front of the quality of the presented lectures, the organization increased the prize and so, three young researchers were the winners of this 1st SPIM: Miss L’Emira Guida HARFOUCHE, a young researcher from Lebanon who works on CEA EVRY- (France) shared the grant of €20,000 with a young PhD Student from INSERM – (Rouen), Mr Jean Baptiste JANELA. The poster from Dr Florence DEBACK-CHAINIAUX (URBC- Belgium) was voted by all participants and received the award of best poster with an amount of €4,000.

The theme of their work regards respectively the radio-sensitivity of stem cells and their implication in their capacity of DNA reparation, the role of lymphocytes T at heart of Medicament Hypersensitivity Syndrome and finally the senescence induced by UVB stress and the dermis photo aging.

Participants enjoyed the convivial atmosphere enabling exchanges of high quality and the beginning of promising partnerships, confirming the interest of this meeting in this structure, so that the next edition will take place in the same city, Vichy, next November 2010. The structure will be kept the same, new lecturers are expected for presentations in the field of skin physiology.
